About me

I  am a designer with a background in Fashion and Illustration.
Drawing and discovering about the shape and nature of ....."things" (?) is what fascinated me.

As a designer I have created active wear and knitwear, costumes for dancers,..
I found the Fashion Industry a bit restrictive. I was not so interested in beautifully fine-tuning bits and pieces about garments and making them suitable for customers, manufacturers and everybody's budgets.

I rather liked the first raw aspect of sourcing themes, images, ideas and putting this into colour and textures. It was this first stage of designing, close to the original idea that I liked most.
But I also loved drawing people and their garments. The human body is such a fascinating sculpture that moves and changes, even more so with exciting clothing on it.

I must have sounded quite convincing with my enthusiasm for working with line and texture (which is, I guess, what drawing could be defined as) so I did a lot of teaching Art & Design and taught, well, a lot of drawing to fashion students and all those who put their hands into the creative field.

As a free-lancer I landed in Illustration. Making images for a purpose, following a brief and considering the style/technique you do it in. People quite like my un-kempt collage-ish and experimental style ...

So now I do three things: Two-dimensional artwork on canvas (see sabinekussmaul.com, click on "Fine Art"), Illustration (... click on "Illustration") and steel objects.
